Him through song we are able to enter into His throne room and be with Him in a
more intimate way. King David wrote many songs to the Lord to show his love,
appreciation, and pain. David made God his focus and shared his life with God,
and he was called a man after God's own heart. Wouldn't we all love to be known
like that?
"Praise ye the LORD. Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise in the
congregation of saints. Let Israel rejoice in him that made him: let the children
of Zion be joyful in their King. Let them praise his name in the dance: let them
sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp. For the LORD taketh pleasure in
his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation. Let the saints be joyful in
glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds. Let the high praises of God be in
their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand; to execute vengeance upon the
heathen, and punishments upon the people; to bind their kings with chains, and
their nobles with fetters of iron; to execute upon them the judgment written; this
honour have all his saints. Praise ye the LORD."(Ps 149:1-9 KJV)
We can be pleasing to our God as we praise him with song, dance and the playing
of instruments. Shouldn't we all want to do what we can to please our Father?
God always rewards and protects His people when they praise Him as we see in the
following verses.
"And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the
prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the
foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened,
and every one's bands were loosed." (Acts 16:25-26 KJV)
There are times we need bondages loosed and doors opened in our lives! We see
very clearly that when we praise God, He will show up and do a mighty thing on
our behalf.
"For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of
his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock. And now shall
mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer
in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto
the LORD." (Ps 27:5-6 KJV)
There is power that God uses for us when we praise Him. We also see that if we
are righteous and upright we should praise our Lord. Not only in secret but also
with a shout and playing of instruments with skillful hands. We need to give our
all and our very best to the Lord of our lives. How could we ever give Him more
than He has given us? God gave to us the most precious thing He had, His Son,
Jesus Christ. He sacrificed so much just to give us everlasting life with Him.
God made us co-heirs with Jesus and gave us dominion over all the earth. Is it
too much to ask to give our God, the sacrifice of praise, which gives Him such
great pleasure? Allow yourself to get into praise and worship, and enter the
throne room of our Heavenly Father. I encourage you to use all of the ways that
God says He enjoys including dance, song, and the playing of instruments.
Practice and become skilful in your worship to our Lord. Spend time in His
presence in praise and worship.
"Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to
praise him. Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed
lyre. Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy. For the word of
the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does." (Ps 33:1-4 NIV)
Let us find out what God's good, pleasing and perfect will is for our lives and
offer our whole body, soul and mind up to God as our spiritual act of worship.
"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies
as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God-this is your spiritual act of
worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be
transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and
approve what God's will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will." (Rom 12:1-2 NIV)
