Return to Worship

What Is a Real Worship Experience? - by Will Langley

I believe that a real worship experience is a time when a person is connected one-on-one with God. It's a time where you can put everything except God to the side. All things that may distract you from God, all things that are weighing heavily on your mind, they can all go to the side. For at this point in time, there is an almighty God looking down on you, and you looking up at Him in a promising way. It's a time of feeling the Holy Spirit, a time of receiving God's grace, a time of acceptance.

Although many people who attend church have received salvation, there are many people who've not, and they can find that acceptance through worship.

I remember a time, when I was counseled at Youth With a Mission in Chico, California, and the presence of God was so thick in the room we were all in. I remember that the service was set up to have a throne with beautiful cloth on it set upon the stage, and there would be an aisle made through the middle of the amphitheater. We were instructed to close our eyes and told that when we felt God's presence to fall to our knees. Everyone was excited because it was a group of about 160 kids with

a burning passion for God. It was a group who would give up just about anything to spend a moment there with God. They were ready to feel more of God, and more they felt that night.

The worship band began to play the song, "Nothing But the Blood of Jesus," a beautiful worship song talking about how God can wash away everything that we'd ever done and make us new. And I'll never forget that during the second chorus as the band began to sing, "Oh precious is the flow, that makes me white as snow...," everyone at once fell to their knees in an immediate silence. It was as though Jesus had entered the room and was walking through the aisle and as He passed each

person they fell. It was like a big wave of beauty and cleansing. It was something I'd personally never forget, and neither would the teens who attended the camp that week.
That night in our rooms when I was talking to my kids about what they might have experienced, they were all speechless. All they could say was, "That was so cool."
To me, that night was a real worship experience.
